The Anchor of Hope
Introduction: Hopeless times require an Anchor of Hope! Will you throw out the anchor of Hope? If you do not, you will miss out on opportunities of blessing. Speaking of anchors, I am reminded of growing up as a boy and fishing – navigating through the water in a boat. Searching for where the fish were biting became the goal of the expedition. Once we discovered where the fish were hiding or bedding, we would need to slow down and to throw out the anchor, less we drift right pass the “honey hole”! Any delay in chunking the heavy metal anchor would result in a MISSED OPPORTUNITY. But throwing out the Anchor would usually result in a nice catch of fish. So it is when it comes to the CHRISTian life – missed opportunities. Unless, like our passage teaches, we “Throw our the Anchor.”
1. Throw out the Anchor of TRUST when you are going through a Storm!
“Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:” (Heb 6:17)
Two thoughts. First, since we are “heirs” or inheritors, then secondly, we should listen to the “counsel”- advice- wisdom of our heavenly Father.
Are you teachable? Have you gotten a “know it all attitude”? Are you leadable? With so much false info going around do you just trust in yourself?
2. Throw out the Anchor of TRUTH when you are going through a Dark Day of Deception!
“18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:” (Heb 6:18)
Three words sum up this verse.
* Delusion
* Confusion
* Perversion
Are you searching for TRUTH? Watch out who you listen to and where you go! Go to the Word of God!!
3. Throw out the Anchor of TRIUMPH when you are going through a Test or Trial!
“19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.” (Heb 6:19,20)
Jesus has already “BEEN THERE” “DONE THAT” except for sin. Therefore, we should listen to Him, and follow Him.
Are you?
Conclusion: Will you throw out the Anchor? Please do not MISS out on the opportunities our Lord has for you.
