Revival

Introduction: The next few devotions are going to relate to the subject of REVIVAL- Spiritual awakening. There seems to be a misunderstanding of this phenomenon that is recorded in the Bible. Therefore the following questions will be addressed on this matter.

1. Why do CHRISTians need a REVIVAL? (Rev 2:1-7, etc.)

“I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

The glorified Christ is giving His evaluation of the Church of Ephesus. While there were some words of commendation, He also spoke words of correction. The word “left” speaks of abandoned.

Did you notice the signs of revival?
• Repentance
• Restoration
• Renewal

First, there needs to be an honest confession. We’ve “left our first love”! Then comes the cleansing followed by the calling.

2. Why do CHRISTians need a REVIVAL? (Rev 2, 3 etc.)

To all the seven Churches except for Smyrna and Philadelphia, Jesus called them to repentance – a change of heart.

Conclusion: What would Jesus say about you and me? Are there some Good things? Are there some Bad things? Probably.
