Knowing and Doing the Will of God

Introduction: How can believers in Jesus Christ know God’s will? Are things clear cut so that we can see? How would you find God’s will in every situation? This devotion will give some guidelines whereby every CHRISTian can discover the Lord’s will.

1. What & Where are the CLEAR Scripture references to know the will of God?

A. Giving THANKS!

“18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1Thess 5:18)

B. Deliver from SIN!

“Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.” (Gal 1:4)

C. Restrain from sexual IMMORALITY!

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:” (1Thess 4:3)

D. For all men to be SAVED!

“4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1Tim 2:4)

Therefore, as believers in the Word of God, we do not need to pray about the will of God in these matters.

2. What & Where are the UNCLEAR Scripture references to know the will of God?

Where to live, work, marry, buy, etc… So how can believers discover God’s will in these matters?

A. By studying the Word of God on these subjects!
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom 10:17)

B. By being led of the Holy Spirit of God!

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Rom 8:14)

C. By seeking out godly counsel!

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” (Prov 11:14)

Warning: Seek only godly counsel, not any counsel. Only seek out those who are walking with the Lord and know truth, and will share the truth in love.

D. By letting God’s inner peace rule in your heart!

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” (Col 3:15)

E. By observing circumstances!

“8I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.” (Rev 3:8)

Conclusion: If we will practice these principles before making a decision, it will guide us in the Will of God. While some things are CLEAR in Scripture to be the Will of God, others are not. Therefore, hopefully this will give some insight for determining God’s Will…for His glory!
