Jesus the Bright and Morning Star

Introduction: Stars are fascinating. Some are even larger than the Sun. But there is One Star that outshines them all! Jesus Christ is called the “Bright and Morning Star.”

John writes: “Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” (Rev 22:16)

Here are five good reasons we need Jesus as our “Bright and Morning Star!”

1. As stars light up the dark sky, Jesus lights up our life! (John 1:1-14) –“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

Remember, the darker the night, the brighter the light! Let your light shine!! Turn the light on!!!

2. As stars shine through the atmosphere, Jesus shines through His followers! (Phil 2:13; Matt 5:16) –
“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life.”

Just as light passes through a stained-glass window, Jesus Christ, being the light of the world (John 8:12), shines through His people. Can you see His light shining? Open the blinds! Let the light out or in!!

3. As stars are named and numbered by the Bright and Morning Star, He also knows our needs! (Psa 147:4) – “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.”

Just as the Creator of heaven and earth spoke light into existence, He speaks light into the stars—and yet He knows our needs. So tell Him. Trust Him. Thank Him.

4. As stars give guidance to travelers, Jesus gives guidance to those who follow Him through His Word!(Psa 119:105) – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Do you need guidance today? Have you got to make some decisions? Let His light guide your steps! His truth will brighten your path.

5. As stars point to certain geographical locations, those who point others to Jesus Christ will shine as stars forever! (Dan 12:3) – “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”

What a great privilege to point people to the only One that can bring them hope, healing, and help! Use your pointer and go tell them! In heaven, you will shine brighter.

Conclusion: Do you need a little light? Traveling through this dark world of woe, we all need a bright light! Jesus is called the “Bright and Morning Star.” Let Him light up your life!
