In the Midst of the Storm

Introduction: Jesus is there. In the midst of the storms, Jesus appears. Are you going through a storm? Where do you turn when you are afraid? When things get out of our control, we panic! But really, what should our response be?

Let’s see.

1. Jesus shows up at the right time! (Matt 14:24, 25) – “But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary…. And in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.”

Did you notice in the text that not only did Jesus instruct His disciples to get in a boat and to go to the other side, but also, after praying, He shows up by walking on the water? He who made the water (Gen 1, 2) ought to be able to walk on it as well as control the wind and waves. He will do that for you!

2. Sometimes in a storm, we do not recognize Jesus! (Matt 14:26) – “And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.”

Our human emotions kick in when we are afraid. Often we think the worst. What about you? Are you facing fear? Remember: fight your fear, but feed your faith.

3. When we are in a storm, Jesus reassures us not to be afraid! (Matt 14:27) – “But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”

Since Jesus Christ walks with us in the storm, then be of good cheer. Why? Because He said so!

Conclusion: After our Lord walks with us through the storms of life, our faith in Him is strengthened, and our testimony because of Him is built to share… all for His glory.
