An Evaluation of Your Salvation

2 Timothy 1:9-14

Introduction: Did you know the BIBLE is like a road map? Not only does it give us instructions as to how to get to heaven, “Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me (John 14:6), ” but the “Word of God” also gives us guidance as to how to relate to our Lord Jesus Christ and to each other, while living in this fallen world. Where are you? In writing to his son in the Lord, Paul takes us through three (3) “EVALUATIONS for your SALVATION”!

1. Are you SAVED? (2 Tim 1:9, 10)

“9Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”

A. When and how were you saved?

{The word “saved” is sṓzō, which means rescue, deliver, safe and secure}

When did you Confess you were a sinner in need of forgiveness and a Savior, Jesus Christ, who died in our place and rose again from the dead?

“He was delivered up for our offenses and raised again for our justification,” (Rom 4:25)

B. What has your life been like since then?

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things passed away….all things become new” (2 Cor 5:17)

{The word “called” is kaléō, which means to invite, summon}

2. Are you SECURE? (2 Tim 1:12-14)

“12For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”

{The word “committed” is parathḗkē, which means deposited, entrusted}
{Sound doctrine}

“13Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”

A. Are you secure in who you are in Christ?
B. Are you secure in whose you are?
C. Are you secure in where you are going?

3. Are you SERVING? (2 Tim 1:11)

“11Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.”

A. Why should we serve the Lord? (2 Cor 5:14, 15)
B. How can we serve the Lord? (Rom 12:1-15)
C. Where can we serve the Lord? (Matt 28:18-20)
    – home, school, work, Church, community

Conclusion: Have you done an “EVALUATION of your SALVATION”? How did you score? What do you need to do? This should be a daily process for those who have trusted in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior!
