The King is Coming

Text: Zechariah 14:1-17

Introduction: Kings come, and Kings go, but one King is coming to stay! King Jesus will come to this earth some glorious day. But remember. First, He will return not as a King but rather as a Bridegroom to receive His bride, the Church. Then after seven years of God’s wrath poured out upon the earth in the form of (7) seals, (7) trumpets, and (7) vials, Jesus will return as the “King of Kings and the Lord of Lords”!

That prompts these questions:
What is it going to be like BEFORE the KING comes?
What is it going to be like WHEN the KING comes?
What is it going to be like AFTER the KING comes?

The prophet and priest Zechariah writes describing the rebuilding of the temple by the Jews after their return to their homeland after being in captivity for 70 years. In addition, he prophesies that Jesus Christ will come again exactly where He left…, namely, the Mount of Olives.

1. What is it going to be like BEFORE the KING Comes? (Zech 14:1-3)

“1Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.”

Luke describes this time as a time of FEAR. (Luke 21:25-26)

“25And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.”

Personal Application: Fear can be turned into Faith as we await His coming. Are you looking first, for the rapture?

2. What is it going to be like WHEN the King comes? (Zech 14:4, 5)

“4And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.”

Jesus describes the events during this time of His return. (Luke 21:27, 28)

“27And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

Personal Application: The UPLOOK changes our OUTLOOK!

3. What is it going to be like AFTER the King comes? (Zech 14:8, 9)

“8And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. 9And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.”

Personal Application: We will worship the King. Peace & Prosperity will be here at last. Even the animal world will experience changes (Isaiah 11).

Conclusion: I’m looking forward to the King coming! Are you? This world is in a mess. His Kingdom will be established when He returns.

“16And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. 17And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.” (Zech 14:16,17)

We will serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who will be crowned the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!

Even so Come, Lord Jesus!
