Pass the Praise Please

Text: Psalm 113:3

“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.”

Introduction: Have you ever heard that little chorus that goes,

“It’s AMAZING what PRAISING can do, Allelujah! Allelujah!”
“It’s AMAZING what PRAISING can do, Allelujah! Allelujah!”
“I don’t worry when things go WRONG, JESUS fills my life with a SONG!”
“It’s AMAZING what PRAISING can do, Allelujah! Allelujah!”

This subject of PRAISING our Lord prompts several questions:

  • When should we PRAISE our Lord?
  • How should we PRAISE our Lord?
  • Why should we PRAISE our Lord?

1. When should we PRAISE our Lord? (Psa 34:1-3)

David who faced numerous hardships writes,

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

Notice as God’s children we are to PRAISE Him “all the time”! This means both in GOOD times and BAD times! Job did in spite of his troubles and trials.

“And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” (Job 1:21)

The writer to the book of Hebrews – many believe Paul writes,

“15By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” (Heb 13:15)

A preacher once said, “We should PRAISE the Lord when we feel like it! We should PRAISE the Lord when we don’t feel like it! We should PRAISE the Lord until we feel like it!”

Do you make it a daily practice to PRAISE the Lord? Why not start right now?

2. How should we PRAISE our Lord? (Psa 100:4,5)

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

The word “Praise” is תְּהִלָּה (teh-hil-law’), which means praise, song of praise. This means sing unto the Lord a song of PRAISE!

The word “bless” is בָרַךְ (baw-rak’), which means to kneel, or bless. So one posture in PRAISING the Lord is kneeling. Other words indicate with uplifted hands.

3. Why should we PRAISE our Lord? (Psa 107:1,2)

“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.”

“23Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” (Psa 50:23)

Jesus is worthy of PRAISE! (Rev 4:11)

“1Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

“9And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” (Rev 5:9-10)

Conclusion: Our Lord inhabits the PRAISE of His people. (Psa 22:3)

“But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.”

The word “inhabit” is יָשַׁב (yaw-shab’), which means to sit, remain, dwell. In other words, our Lord gets actively involved when we PRAISE Him!

King Jehoshaphat learned that! (2Chro 20) Paul and Silas witnessed His glory and power as they PRAISED the Lord Jesus! (Acts 16:25,26)

“25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.”

“Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.” (Psa 147:1)

PRAISE is a spiritual lifelong exercise! “Pass the PRAISE Please”!
