God’s Government

Introduction: Isaiah’s prophecy concerning the birth of Jesus Christ is matchless! How did he know? He did not live to see it, yet he saw it by faith. Can you see God’s promises by faith? For a moment, please follow God’s promise of sending Hope into the world. Jesus Christ, the Son, not only brings Hope but also Healing. Furthermore, Help will come when His Government is established.

1. God the Son Was Born So That We Can Be Born Again (Isaiah 9:6) – “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Some understand this passage as a reference to Jesus Christ’s first coming, while others see it as a declaration of His second coming. Either way, He’s coming! Compare the two:

  • First Coming: He was wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
  • Second Coming: He will be wrapped in a vesture dipped in blood, and His name shall be called the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

Do you see Him as a baby or as a King?

2. God the Son Will Govern This World (Isaiah 9:7) – “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever.”

Don’t miss that. Jesus will be in control. He will “order it.” The Hebrew word “order” (כּון) means to establish, prepare, make firm, set up, fix, or direct. Bottom line: He will be in charge! Is He in charge of your life?

Conclusion: God sent forth His Son to be born in order to die for our sins. Not only was Jesus Christ born to die, but He also rose from the grave and promised to come again to rule this world.
Remember, things are moving according to His will and plan—even though it might not seem like it. In the end, His kingdom will come. Satan’s reign will end, and Jesus will rule and reign forever.
